Oklahoma City (February 2, 2018) – The Oklahoma Achieves Board of Directors voted this week to support the Step Up Oklahoma plan. The plan, which includes a $5,000 teacher pay raise, aligns with the group’s policy to support regionally competitive teacher pay.
Executive Director Jennifer Monies issued the following statement in support of the plan:
“Oklahoma Achieves has long supported regionally competitive pay for our teachers. Much like the private sector must offer competitive pay to prevent turnover and attract skilled workers, teachers’ pay must be competitive with salaries in surrounding states so we can keep our best teachers here.”
“We support the Step Up Oklahoma plan because increasing teacher pay will keep more of our great teachers in Oklahoma classrooms, which will improve educational outcomes for our students. We are optimistic this pay increase will pass and we can transition the discussion to focus on much-needed reforms like transparency in spending, meaningful accountability, empowering parents and paying our best teachers even more. Increased pay for teachers, coupled with reform and innovation, will help better align our education system to our state’s workforce needs and give every Oklahoma student a shot at their dream job,” Monies said.
